Holyrood

Day trip to Edinburgh reminded me how truly beautiful it is after so many visits! And also how very cold it gets! It is a cultural and historic city. I think I definitely prefer historic to modern :-) The main city centre is divided by Princes Street and Princes Street Gardens (with Gothic Scott monument) where one would find all the normal high street shops and Jenners department store, into 'Old town' and 'New town'. I think they are both equally impressive with magnificent architecture mainly Medieval and Georgian with cobbled pavements and streets. The New town houses Edinburgh University and you will find the 'Royal Mile' in the Old town with cute little houses, shops and boutiques.

There are many things too see and do in Edinburgh. The main attractions are the Edinburgh Castle on the Castle rock hill (which you can't miss from the city centre - not quite what I expected), Murrayfield, Multrees Walk with designer shops such as Harvey Nichols, Holyrood (the controversial Scottish house of parliament - which I believe sticks out like a sore thumb - it just doesn't fit into the georgian architecture), Arthurs' seat ( if one is feeling energetic), galleries and museums such as Dynamic Earth and the Scottish National Portrait Gallery. There are also many trendy bars and restaurants on Hanover street, Lothian road and Grassmarket.
