Texas

Houston
It took about 6 hours to get to Houston from Atlanta on American Airlines, there was a delay before taking off in Atlanta and then we went via Dallas, and there was another delay there too! You will not believe this but I checked in my bags at the gate of the plane before boarding in Dallas but I couldn't find them when I got to Houston - yes guys you guessed right, my bags were missing once again freaky or what??? It took 2 days to recover them!

The city of Houston in Texas or Htown as it's popularly known, was named after a Texas hero called General Sam Houston. It is somewhat of an interstesing place (driving is the only way to get around). There are several districts downtown such as the Theatre District, the Historic district, Skyline district and the shopping district but everything downtown pretty much shuts down after 5pm! and I mean everything! What can mostly be done in Houston is eating! Houston has many lovely restuarants and bars, quite a lot can be found along the never ending 'Westheimer Road' e.g. Rockfish, Grand Lux Cafe, IHOP, Cheesecake factory, SkyBar (montrose ave) etc. Along this road are also many nice shops/boutiques and the lovely 'Galleria' mall.

One of the highlights of my visit was watching the Houston Comets win their NBA match in the Toyota centre - my first live basketball game! (and also playing some tennis - sorry Ibs)

Webster
Webster is about 45 mins from Houston by road. The main attraction in Webster is NASA - the Jonhson Space Centre! There are many fun things to do at the space centre but the main highlight is the tour which takes you to the still in use mission control facilties, where the historic missions to the moon and back were guided - Mercury, Gemini and Apollo programs. Remember Apollo 13 "Houston we have a problem..."

Galveston
Galveston is about an hour from Houston. The charming island city has many grand Victorian mansions. Galveston is mainly a resort, with many beaches and most of the highlights on the waterfront. There is also the pyramid-shaped greenhouse in Moody Gardens (didn't go in).

San Antonio
The most exciting aspect of my visit to Texas, was my day trip to San Antonio, it took roughly 2.5 hrs to get there. San Antonio is the most historic city in Texas, and the most popular both for its pivotal historic role and its natural beauty. The main attractions are the 5 Spanish frontier missions, I saw only 2 - the 'Alamo' and the 'Concepcion'. 'La Villita' - a little village of stone where the mexicans officially surrendered to the Republic of Texas, it now houses many shops and craft workshops. The amazing 'Riverwalk' (Paseo del Rio), is the tree lined horseshoe-shaped path along the San Antonio river; an open-air promenade lined with shops, restaurants and bars. Riverwalk is a peaceful oasis in the middle of the city! A must see and do when in San Antonio!
